World’s Largest Record Collection is Worth $50 Million; No One Wants it for $3 Million

This collection of 1 million albums and 1,5 million singles is amazing but it’s a sad story.

Government money for culture is important and to preserve this

amazing collection for the future is something the money

should be spent on.

So I saw this cute short last week, but the source was taken down and all I could find was a poor YouTube version (not worth the loss of quality). But now I’ve found a high quality version so check it out! “Oktapodi” is an animated short about an octopus love affair suddenly ripped apart when one of them gets ripped out of the tank. There is some really spectacular animation and a great story to go with it. Also the team who created it have put up a behind the scenes piece which you can view here.

The Crown of the Sun

During a total solar eclipse, the Sun’s extensive outer atmosphere, or corona, is an inspirational sight. The subtle shades and shimmering features of the corona that engage the eye span a brightness range of over 10,000 to 1, making them notoriously difficult to capture in a single picture. But this composite of 28 digital images ranging in exposure time from 1/1000 to 2 seconds comes close to revealing the crown of the Sun in all its glory. The telescopic views were recorded near Kochenevo, Russia during the August 1 total solar eclipse and also show solar prominences extending just beyond the edge of the eclipsed sun. Remarkably, features on the dark near side of the New Moon can also be made out, illuminated by sunlight reflected from a Full Earth. (via APOD: 2008 August 8 - The Crown of the Sun)
